The men were returning from a fishing trip when their boat ran out of fuel in the South Alligator River in Arnhem Land. They waited two days for other fishermen to pass by and when none did, they set off their emergency radio beacon.
A CareFlight helicopter reached them within an hour on Wednesday afternoon. The crew delivered water to the men and remained nearby until the NT Water Police arrived to tow the men back to the South Alligator boat ramp.
CareFlight's Matthew Auld says it was a good thing the men had the right safety equipment onboard.
"It's a timely reminder coming into the run-off fishing season to check your boats EPIRB and safety equipment is up to date."
