The Kew-based artist believes everyone has a certain amount of creativity they can tap into.
Ian creates his artwork from a number of materials, including timber. He is relatively new to the creative arts scene and is still experimenting with different styles.
Ian said creating pieces is an outlet for him.
"The mindfulness practice is one of the best things about it, as I can focus completely on the task at hand," he said.
"It stops my mind from drifting."
Ian said his piece ‘Tears of Creativity’ helped him express emotions through its creation.
There were some hollow parts in the wood which Ian imagined to be the eyes. Rain had also formed indents in the wood to give the impression of crying.
“It changed a lot from start to finish, starting out more like ‘Mr Potato Head’,” Ian said.
“I am over the moon with how it turned out.”
Ian has no formal art training and his experience comes from working with his father as a trade assistant and handyman.
Ian said the Q Pop Up Gallery has given him the opportunity to showcase his work for the first time.
Ian’s confidence has grown through positive feedback received from other people.
“I love watching people’s reaction when they first see one of my pieces,” he said.
“Seeing their facial expressions is so rewarding.”
Ian is father to two young boys, who he loves spending time with.
He enjoys outdoor activities including bush walking, swimming, cycling and camping.
Ian has been accepted into the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council Art Smarts program.
It’s a creative business mentoring program to help people build a career, which follows their passion.
Ian is looking forward to developing artistically, with an aim to become a full time artist.
The Q Pop Up Gallery is open from Thursday to Sunday from 10am until 4pm. For more information visit https://qpopupgallery.com
