A spokesperson from NSW RFS said the Algona Road fire burnt around 30 hectares since it started over the weekend. It was caused by faulty power lines.
A number of Mid North Coast NSW RFS crews carried out a back burning operation in the area from 12pm on Tuesday, January 1. The fire was declared contained at 5.30pm and under control.
NSW RFS Inspector Guy Duckworth said the operation was carried out without any hiccups throughout the afternoon.
The operation involved 28 firefighters from locations including Johns River, Coopernook, Cundletown, Marlee, Lake Cathie, Tuncurry and the North Shore.
“We’ve been rotating crews from across the Mid North Coast district over the last three days to this location,” Inspector Duckworth said.
Weather conditions were favourable for the backburning operation, due to low winds.
Crews will return to the area over the next few days to monitor and clean up from the operation.
Meanwhile the mammoth effort to contain a 90 hectare coastal bushfire south of Port Macquarie has entered its second day with fire crews remaining on scene to monitor and assess damage.
