The club has made the decision based on the increasing number of female participation in the sport. The competition is open for age groups from Under 6 to Under 11.
Club president Troy Pemberton said a third of the under 6 players were girls in 2018.
“Lake Cathie has always had a strong representation of girl players, some of whom have gone on to play at a high level,” he said.
“We see the girls’ competition as a way to encourage girls to continue to play and also provide an opportunity for those who may not have wanted to play in mixed teams.”
All girl age groups have been highlighted by Football Mid North Coast as a way of promoting and expanding female participation numbers in the local area.
Girls who register with the Lake Cathie club will still be eligible to play in the mixed competition.
The season kicks off in April, with Lake Cathie Football Club registration days on Friday, February 8 and Friday, February 15.
People can register on those days at Lake Cathie Public School from 1.30pm to 5.30pm.
There is another registration day on Saturday, February 9 at Watsons Caravans, Port Macquarie from 10am to 12pm.
Lake Cathie Football Club is a registered activity provider for the Active Kids voucher.
