The resident, who didn’t want to be named, said she believes residents are illegally clearing the vegetation and tree saplings to gain private access to the water.
The resident said she is concerned about the future of the environment and the animals who live there.
She said the clearing of the land is a form of vandalism.
A spokesperson from Port Macquarie-Hastings Council said staff inspected the area, following a report from the concerned resident.
The spokesperson said the damage was limited to mowing on public land, there were no trees or shrubs removed or damaged.
“There are fines for illegal tree clearing, though these are dependent on many factors and assessed case by case,” he said.
