Grant was recently presented with the resort’s Resident of the Year Award.
Through his involvement with the Laurieton Men’s Shed, Grant has helped connect people with their community and inspired men to learn, grow and communicate with one another via regular meetings and events.
Grant enjoys being a part of the Men’s Shed because it encourages positive socialisation.
Laurieton Residential Resort director Sarah Garrett said it is widely recognised that women thrive socially in most environments and it is often the case with men having a harder time finding their place in a new environment.
“We believe Grant has gone over and above to make fellow residents feel welcome and has a very positive influence on the whole community,” she said.
“Grant has recognised the need for men to have a connection within the community and has facilitated an environment for men to build networks both inside and outside of the resort.”
Grant and his wife Jaci moved to the resort 18 months ago from Western Australia.
Jaci runs one of the craft groups at the resort and will utilise the new craft room, which provides a dedicated space for various groups to gather, create and be together.
Laurieton Resort opened the new craft room on January 30.
Ms Garrett said it features an extensive outdoor barbecue area, sewing tables, craft tables, kitchenette and comfortable seating for a cup of tea and quiet catch up.
“It can also be used as a multipurpose space for art shows and meetings, but will also be used as a secondary space for our other community groups such as the dance groups (ballroom and rock n roll), yoga and mediation,” she said.
