Glenn Dunn from the Bonny Hills RFS said crews were called to the fire at about 9pm on Monday, February 11 near Reflections Holiday Parks Bonny Hills.
Crews from Lake Cathie and Lake Innes also attended the incident.
Glenn said on arrival crews saw six people allegedly running from the fire, which had been illegally lit.
There were flames near the surf shack and Glenn said the fire would have been six by six metres in size.
Glenn said it was lucky the fire didn’t spread to properties at the caravan park.
“The weather conditions were very dry and windy,” he said.
Meanwhile a statewide total fire ban has been declared today, Tuesday, February 12 due to forecast hot, dry and windy conditions.
Some parts of the Hastings are expected to see temperatures as high as 35 degrees with 15-25kmh winds from the north-west to north-east and little chance of rain.
