Barbara Jackson said it’s very important to celebrate women’s achievements at International Women’s Day on Friday, March 8.
The theme for the 2019 International Women’s Day is Balance for Better, a call-to-action for driving gender balance across the world.
Barbara said women have come a long way in achieving gender equality and her grandmother lived at a time when women received the right to vote.
However she said senior positions in the workforce are still predominantly male dominated.
Barbara said there are a lot of supportive men in the community and it's important for males and females to share responsibilities so they can live satisfying lives.
The Laurieton United Services Club (LUSC) will host the event on Friday, March 8 from 7am until 8.30am. Students from the Camden Haven High School will also share the emcee duties for the morning.
Barbara said all women are welcome to the event and people are welcome to leave early if they have to get to school or work.
“It’s a wonderful way to start the day and the breakfast is always beautiful,” she said.
Attendees will be given the opportunity to hear from guest speaker and ABC radio presenter Fiona Wylie, about her career and challenges she has faced.
Tickets are available for $20 at LUSC and Barbara encourages people to purchase a ticket promptly before the sale ends on March 4.
“It’s a great opportunity for women to book with their friends so they can sit at the same table,” she said.
