The cente's president and secretary Joyce O'Neill said even in the digital age people rely of word of mouth direct from people who can help them with information.
Joyce helps over 100 people a year with Tax Help. She said people who see her for assistance often don't have access to a computer.
The centre is calling for more volunteers to help assist those who drop into the centre with questions, or who want information about the area.
Joyce said they can also link people with the appropriate service, if they require assistance elsewhere.
Volunteers are also open to having a chat to people who are lonely and want some company.
Joyce said the work at the centre suits volunteers who are not up to doing physical work, as they can sit down or stand up as they please.
"One of our volunteers has a back injury so she can't sit or stand for long periods at a time," she said.
"There's absolutely no pressure on volunteers."
There is no training to become a volunteer at the centre, however Joyce said it's valuable to have qualities including being friendly, having patience and accepting of all people.
The centre is located in the School of Arts building at the corner of Bold and Laurie Streets. It is staffed entirely by local volunteers who provide a vast array of services.
Services include free Tax Help, secretarial services, free tourist information, bus and train timetables, referral to appropriate services and is a distribution point for publications.
The centre is experiencing a shortage of volunteers for Monday to Friday shifts.
If you can commit to one day per week between the hours of 9am and 1pm, the centre would love to hear from you.
People are welcome to drop into the centre or call on 6559 5676.
