As dawn came and the sun rose fog hung in the air as thoughts turned to those who landed in Turkey 104 years ago.
April 25 marks the first landing of soldiers from the Australian Imperial Force at Anzac Cove, on April 25, 1915.
Australian soldiers landed just before dawn on the Gallipoli peninsula and by the end of the first day, 747 of those soldiers had perished, killed by waiting Turkish troops atop the cliffs.
By the end of the Gallipoli campaign 8000 Australian soldiers had lost their lives fighting on that peninsula and more than 60,000 Australians died during World War I.
The moving service in Kendall was a chance for all to remember and pay tribute to those who have served in wars from before World War I to current conflicts and peacekeeping missions.
