That's the premise behind the formation of the community-based group Revive Lake Cathie.
The group will hold a public forum on Saturday May 4 at the Lake Cathie Bowling Club at 3.30pm.
The rise of the group parallels increasing community concerns about the health of the popular lake as a local venue and a tourist destination.
President of the group, Danielle Maltman, praised the broader community for their willingness to step up and work toward a common goal.
"I can't begin to tell you how amazing these people (volunteers) are," she said.
"This (group) is not a single person thing and everyone is really community-focused.
"We haven't had to go out to encourage people to join up, they are coming to us offering their support and encouragement," she said.
