Three students from Laurieton's Matsubayashi Ryu Karate attended the event including Steven Lee, Hudson Lee and Adam Patrzala.
Steven has been training in karate since 2006 and said he enjoys the discipline, goal setting and fitness the sport provides.
Steven has witnessed his son's confidence grow through his participation and enjoys sharing training and competitions with him.
On Sunday, May 19 Steven, Hudson and Adam successfully competed against a large field of competitors from around Australia.
Steven achieved a second place in Kobudo (okinawan weapons) using a bo.
Steven performed a kata using the bo for a period of time up to three minutes. His kata was judged by three panelists on the basis of control, technique, efficiency and speed.
Hudson Lee was able to secure a first place for sumo wrestling and third in karate kata.
Adam Patrzala made it through to the second round in his sumo wrestling event. It was Adam's first karate tournament and he has recently moved to the Camden Haven from Poland.
All three students will attend their next tournament in August.
The Australian AMAC titles will be in Port Macquarie at the end of the year. Students must place in the top 10 at two tournaments to be invited.
Steven thanked Sensei John Carlyle who attended the Australian Martial Arts Championships (AMAC) event at Coffs Harbour with the students.
"Without his assistance we wouldn't have done as well as we did," he said.
