The Big Dig is an excellent family fun day at Town Beach where people of all ages are encouraged to dig for treasure in the sand.
Project coordinator Peter Grob said the event is shaping up to be another great one.
Registration commences at 8.30am with the first dig (3 and under) commencing at 10.30am.
The Family Big Dig will start at 12 noon and has a major prize valued at around $1000 donated by Optus.
"The Big Dig is such a family friendly event that we now have kids and adults come down on the day dressed up as pirates," Mr Grob said.
"We have been doing this event for nearly 10 years and each year we raise vital funds to help local and international charities continue to help the community."
Mr Grob said this year the Big Dig is partnering with major sponsors Optus and Port City Bowling Club and youth organisation Hastings Rotaract.
"We are very excited to have two major sponsors this year as well as Hastings Rotaract who will help in assisting with the running of beach activities on the day," he said.
It will be a lot of fun with children of all ages able to dig for tokens to get a range of prizes.
Chris Simon from Optus said they were delighted to come on as a major sponsor.
"We are passionate about getting involved in the local community and supporting the regional areas in which we live, work and play. The Big Dig is a great community event, and fun for all ages," Mr Simon said.
Luke Chelman from Port City Bowling Club said they too were happy to be sponsoring the event.
"We have been a sponsor for the Big Dig for a number of years and we love being part of a great community event," Mr Chelman said.
