The North Brother Local Catchments Flood Study (2019) defines flood characteristics for urban areas at the base of the North Brother Mountain.
The draft report was presented to council at its meeting on May 16 and it details the results of the first phase of the stormwater project.
It identified a number of hot spot flood areas including Bold Street in Laurieton, St Joseph's Primary School Laurieton and Pelican Court, West Haven.
The report recommended council considers the adoption of the flood study and the outputs to guide floodplain management and land use planning in the North Brother local catchments study area.
"The focus of the study is to understand the behavior of local catchment flash flooding from North Brother Mountain and the flood risk that it poses to the community," the report outlined.
"This will assist council to develop measures to manage the impact of flooding and guide strategic planning for future development of the area."
It includes areas of the villages of Laurieton, West Haven, Lakewood, Kew and Deauville.
The report states numerous gullies and watercourses drain from the North Brother Mountain through the developed areas, which over time have been piped, filled, crossed by road embankments or redirected, contributing to the existing flooding problems.
"Localised flooding in some areas may interact with and be exacerbated by mainstream flooding in Queens Lake, Stingray Creek and Camden Haven River," it states.
The community is invited to attend an information session at Laurieton Library on Wednesday, June 12 or Saturday, June 15 from 9.30am until 11.30am.
The documents of the flood study report may also be viewed in the foyer of the Port Macquarie Council administration building in Laurieton, Port Macquarie or Wauchope between 8:30am and 4:30pm Monday to Friday.
