The Saltwater Freshwater exhibition opened at the Glasshouse at the end of May and will go on tour to Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery, Manning Regional Gallery and the Wadjar Regional Aboriginal Art Gallery in the coming months.
Saltwater Freshwater curator Amanda Hayman said art is an opportunity to bring a community together.
"Art is a powerful vehicle that can evoke emotion, empathy and social connectiveness and this initiative has the ability to strengthen relationships within the region," Ms Hayman said.
As part of the exhibition, the Glasshouse has been hosting a collaborative weaving workshops on Saturdays throughout June culminating in the immersion weekend on June 29-30.
Glasshouse gallery curator Bridget Purtill said the exhibition and cultural immersion weekend will be a lot of fun.
"The exhibition itself has been a lot of fun and created by the Saltwater Freshwater Alliance which is made up of Aboriginal representatives from across the Mid North Coast," Ms Purtill said.
"The exhibition is a collaboration between local artists with cultural items and paintings on display. The artists themselves range in age from very young to elders.
"Along with the exhibition we have had Aboriginal weaving classes which members of the community have loved coming to.
"The weaving art will be put together at the cultural immersion day and will then go on tour with the exhibition."
The immersion weekend will provide the community with an opportunity to immerse themselves in local Aboriginal language, storytelling, curators talks, film screenings and more.
The events across the weekend will be free and the community are encouraged to come along and experience the wealth of indigenous culture across our region, Ms Purtill said.
"During the immersion weekend we will have yarning circles where elders will tell stories that have been passed down over the generations," she said.
"It will be a chance for the community to hear stories they wouldn't usually hear.
"On the Saturday there will also be an opportunity for people to explore the Gathang and Dunghutti languages through an informative and intimate journey facilitated by local linguists so come on down and join us."
