The 10-year-old competed in the junior girls event for the high jump and achieved a record leap height of 1.14 metres.
The previous record was held by Kristen Preece when she jumped to 1.10 metres in 2000.
The school crowd went wild with excitement when they heard Marlie had broken the record.
"Everyone was cheering and people came up to me to say I did a great job," Marlie said.
While Marlie admits she wasn't a big fan of high jump until breaking the record, she is now planning on practicing everyday in the lead up to future carnivals.
Marlie is the second tallest in her class and said she believes her height helped propel her over the bar.
There is a particular technique Marlie is practicing to perfect.
"It's all about taking the right steps before you make the jump," she said.
Marlie enjoys running and is in the kilometre club at her school.
