Hockey: Camden Haven Venom and Chatham clash in Mid North Coast Premier League action

CAMDEN Haven ended a 10-game winless streak with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Chatham in their Mid North Coast Premier League women's hockey clash on Saturday.

Goals to Pip Cox, Carla Taggart and Jodie Danvers saw the Venom return to the winner's list for the first time since their opening-round win over Tacking Point Thunder Omni back in April.

They led 1-0 at the break and went on with the job in the second half.

Captain Catherine Carroll said it was a complete team effort, although young guns Lily Burgmann, Edie Cleland and Eve Walker all stood up.

"We had a lot of trust in each other, we moved the ball early and into open space which really helped," she said.

"We improved throughout every quarter which was nice."

After doing everything but score goals in a 3-0 loss last weekend, the shoe was on the other foot as the Venom regularly found themselves in goalscoring positions.

"If we can keep playing like we did on Saturday we can keep building on that," Carroll said.

"They didn't really have a shot on goal."

A stronger turnout to training during the week was one of the keys to the improved performance.

"We had most of the team turn up to training during the week which was good to see and it definitely helped," Carroll said.

The three-goal victory breathed new life into the Venom's finals hopes and Carroll was hopeful they could register successive victories.

Would their focus now shift to a late-season charge towards a finals position?

"We can only hope," Carroll said.

What else is making news?
