150 years ago today, Beechwood Public School opened its doors to students for the first time. Today, the school is all quiet, due to school holidays, but the celebration planning is well underway.
Beechwood Public School, in conjunction with the Beechwood Public School P&C Association, will be hosting their celebrations in September this year due to the clash with school holidays. Past students, staff and interested members of the public are invited to attend these celebrations.
"The 150-year anniversary of Beechwood Public School gives us an opportunity to celebrate both the history and the future of high-quality education provided within the Beechwood community," stated relieving Principal Tracey Bromfield.
These celebrations commence with a special anniversary assembly at the School at 10am on Friday 2September 20, and the day will conclude with the digging up of the time capsule, which was buried in 1994. The school will also have open classrooms with historical displays created by current students.
On Saturday September 21, starting at 10am, the P&C is hosting a Heritage Fair. Beechwood P&C President Libby Hamerlok is extending a welcome to all to come and share in this occasion.
"It's an honour to be the President of the P&C in the school's 150th year, and we'd like to invite all those who have supported the P&C and our school to come and be part of this wonderful occasion," she said.
The Sesquicentenary Heritage Fun Fair will be showcasing the history of the school and our region, with historic cars on display as well as school and local area photos and memorabilia. Open to everyone, the day will be full of fun and entertainment with market stalls, kids' entertainment, a reptile show, food and drinks, and will have live music from past and present students of the school.
At 6pm that evening, a dinner will be held at Wauchope Country Club, formally celebrating the anniversary and allowing past students to get together and share their memories of the school. The dinner is also a P&C fundraiser for the school, which will help provide more equipment and resources to the school to continue its excellent educational standards.
Due to venue size, there are a limited number of tickets available. Tickets for the dinner go on sale on August 1 and are available at the following link:
Mrs Bromfield added that they would dearly love to have as many past people who have been associated with the school in the past come along.
"We are asking for community members to share this information around - especially for those who have moved away but may want to return to be part of the celebrations," she added.
