The Camden Haven High School distance education student broke a record at the School Sport Australia (SSA) Championship in Melbourne. He achieved a time of 28.94 for the 50 metre breaststroke race.
The time puts the 17-year-old up with the best of the best Australian swimmers for his age. Nash said he will now go to the Olympic swimming trials in 2020.
Nash has always been a 'water baby' and said swimming has always come naturally for him.
He said he listens to music before a major race to 'pump up' before a race, in an effort to control his nerves.
Nash often has no memory of a major race, as he said he doesn't focus on technique or other aspects, rather he just goes on auto drive.
The crowd went wild when Nash touched the wall at the end of the pool after an amazing speedy streak down the lane. Nash didn't know he had broken the record until he found out his time.
He had never broken the record in training before, saving it for the big race day.
To add to Nash's achievement he also achieved gold in the 100 metre breaststroke race, with a time of 1.04.52. He missed that record by just 0.12.
To cap off the event, Nash achieved silver in the 4 x 50 metrte medley relay.
Nash never gets bored of training in the sport, as he said he's always determined to conquer the next goal.
On average he will complete eight swimming sessions and three gym sessions a week.
Growing up in the country Nash said he doesn't get the same access to resources as city athletes do. However he doesn't let that stop him.
"As long as you've got a good coach and access to a pool that's all you need," he said.
Nash is currently competing his final year of school through the Camden Haven High School's distance education program.
He's enjoying a short rest after Melbourne before he starts preparing for upcoming competitions, including the State Short Course in August and the National Open Water Championships in October.
Camden Haven High School student Bailey Whitton also achieved highly at the Melbourne Australian All Schools event. He took out three bronze medals for the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle and 4x50m freestyle relay.
