National Landcare Week is a celebration of the tireless efforts and commitment of passionate, dedicated and inspiring volunteers, who help protect and rehabilitate the natural environment.
The week will be celebrated with a number of events on from September 2 until September 8 .
In the Hastings region there are twelve local Landcare groups dedicated to improving our local environment.
Lake Cathie volunteer Marika Privett said volunteering with Landcare was wonderful for her mental health.
"Landcare is good for the mind, body and soul," Ms Privett said.
"Since joining I have learnt so much about the local flora, fauna and met many great people.
"We also connect with and help local schools, the council and other Landcare groups in the area."
Each of the Landcare groups get together every week to enhance local bushland, waterways and coastline.
The groups aim to enhance local biodiversity, build environmental awareness, improve the look of bushland, provide habitat for wildlife and create clean waterways.
Volunteers come from all walks of life, are different ages and have varying backgrounds but they all get together with a common goal.
Landcare volunteer Richard Cullen said Camden Haven Landcare started in 1994 and has achieved a lot since its establishment.
Mr Cullen said the group has helped beautify the entrance to Kendall through pruning, weeding and planting.
Volunteers also helped to establish the environment around the Kendall pool, the veggie garden at Kendall Public School, the school rainforest and take care of the Kendall Services & Citizens Club riverside site.
Mr Cullen said areas have been at times cared for by new hard working volunteers from different clubs, associations and council.
"Landcare continues with ongoing working bees," he said.
