Lake Cathie amenities and sporting field targeted with graffiti and vandalism

The Lake Cathie amenities block was targeted with graffiti, while the Lake Cathie Sporting Field's storage containers were damaged last week.

A spokesperson from Port Macquarie Hastings Council labelled the graffiti act as "disappointing" and said vandalism continues to cost the community thousands of dollars every year.

Graffiti Blasters volunteers tackle illegal graffiti on public property in known hotspots, using specialist equipment and a vehicle provided by council.

A council spokesperson said chemicals, equipment and the cost of the vehicle costs about $100,000 a year but that doesn't cover the cost of volunteers' time.

The spokesperson said it's money which could be invested into roads, sporting facilities, parks and other community facilities.

Meanwhile the storage shed at Lake Cathie sporting fields was broken into last week.

Lake Cathie Bonny Hills Junior Rugby League president Rodney Nugent said the committee works hard to provide players with a great club and the vandalism was "a real kick in the guts".

"Not only have you destroyed our container's doors, we are now up for cost to fix them, which this small little footy club cannot afford."
