"It was amazing, I was very humbled," she said.
"I do a lot of work for the community but you don't expect to be awarded for it."
Mrs Hyde has lived in the town for the last 45 years moving from Sydney after desiring a "seachange".
She hasn't looked back.
"I am just really passionate about the Port Macquarie community," she said.
Her community involvement ranges from the Salvation Army and Bravehearts to the Greater Port Macquarie Tourism Association.
Nominations are now open for the 2020 Australia Day Awards.
There are five categories. These are: Young Citizen of the Year (16-35), Citizen of the Year (31-65), Senior Citizen (65 plus), Community Group of the Year and Environmental Citizen of the Year.
Community radio station 2 Way FM won the Community Group of the Year in 2019.
President Liz Faassen said it was a "huge honour" given there was so many community groups nominated in the category.
She said the award helped 2 Way FM successfully obtain a financial grant from the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia.
