The Bonny Hills resident has always been active and took up crossfit about four years ago to complement his surfing.

Anthony trains about six times a week at the North Brother CrossFit Centre and admits he's now addicted to the active regime.

In February Anthony registered online to compete against other crossfit athletes around the world.

In his age group Anthony finished in the top 100 competitors out of about 4000 people.

In June Anthony qualified for the state team in Sydney as part of the Masters League Games. He then went on to compete at the national competition in Melbourne.

Competitors were judged on their performance during six events.

"I would've been happy to win one event but I came away with three," he said.

In the Run Forest Run event Anthony led the entire way for the 2.4km run and came away with the win.

He said it goes to show just how far he's come since his junior school days of losing running events.

Anthony thanked Steve and Jo McCarthy their great coaching and nutrition advice, especially in the past twelve months.

"I just love working out with all the North Brother crew in such a positive and healthy environment," he said.

Over the past four years Anthony has lost 15 kilograms.

"I cut out all soft drink and just have water now," he said.

"I used to have about six cans of coke a day and I loved all kinds of sugary snacks."

Anthony said he's been inspired by all kinds of people who do cross fit.

He made mention of an 84-year-old who joined in the classes nicknamed 'Silver Fit'.
