At the 2019 Clubs NSW Award ceremony in Sydney on November 2, Laurieton United Services Club was the winner in the Disability, Welfare and Social Inclusion category for their involvement and support of Camden Haven Community at 3.
Laurieton United Services club manager Rob Dwyer said he was delighted to accept the award on behalf of Camden Haven Community at 3.
"We work with the Camden Haven Community at 3 because first and foremost, clubs are here to support their communities. Their whole communities," Mr Dwyer said.
"Our support is not limited to sponsoring the local sporting teams and community groups it is about making sure we include all people.
"Before the Camden Haven Community at 3 it was difficult to support the homeless community because they were hidden."
Mr Dwyer said the program has been instrumental in helping people from all walks of life come together to meet new people and create a positive space for them to go and get help accessing services.
"The man who started the Community at 3 was homeless himself. He knew how to reach those in need, and we had the means and infrastructure to help," he said.
"This initiative has now spread to neighbouring communities like Wauchope, who we acknowledge was a finalist in this category.
"We are proud to accept this award on behalf of the volunteers who helped bring our local homeless community into the light to be embraced by the wider community."
Camden Haven Community at 3 chairperson Theo Hazelgrove said the award was a reflection of the club's dedication to support the local community.
"We are of course thrilled with the award because we know Laurieton United Services Club are passionate about engaging with the community and help facilitate us running the program," Mr Hazelgrove said.
"Camden Haven Community at 3 is a place for connecting and a safe place to come for people who are needy.
"We can listen to people and help them access local services and opportunities and we are proud of what we have been able to achieve with the help from the club."
