In a state first, both school Higher School Certificate results and ATAR results came out on the same day with students finding out their coursework marks early on December 17 and their respective ATAR results just after lunch.
With an ATAR of 97.2, distance education Isabella Moretti was one of the state's highest achieving students and said she was "so surprised" when the results finally came through.
"I could not sleep all of last night so when the marks came out first thing this morning I was so so happy," isabella said.
"I got a band six for Beginners Italian and a score of 96 which is just so great. I wanted to do Italian as I have lots of family in Italy and I wanted to be able to speak the language with them."
Isabella completed italian through distance education student with Camden Haven High School and also achieved incredibly high results at her usual school in biology, advanced mathematics, legal studies and advanced english.
"I was hoping to get above 90 for my ATAR so I am so happy. I have already got early entry into a number of university courses so now I am just looking at all my options," she said.
"It has been a really great day."
Ronan Bailey also received a band six for music and said he enjoyed the subject because it was less structured.
"I love playing the drums and I was really happy to get such a good mark in music," Ronan said.
"today was pretty stressful first up but now that we have all our results we can look to the future. I am taking a gap year and already have a job lined up for next year so I can save some money and then we will see what happens."
Camden Haven High School deputy principal Shayne Vonbun said he was incredibly proud of the 2019 year 12 cohort.
"In their HSC results our students performed very positively across the board," Mr Vonbun said.
"In 2019 we offered 75 HSC courses though our face to face and distance education curriculum and we are incredibly proud of our 16 students who received band sixes.
"We also had numerous students who attained very high band fives.
"Across our subjects we had standout achievements in music with two band six and 11 band five results and another huge success was our distance education students who studied languages."
Schools were able to see how students performed in subjects but rely on students to inform them of ATAR results. Mr Vonbun said with a cohort of 96, students had proven hard work and determination produces results.
"Regardless of ATAR results 42 of our students have already accepted early entry to a number of universities," he said.
"The year 12s this year were a worldly group who were focused and set clear goals to achieve their own successes.
"Particularly for our distance education students who face a range of different challenge the results are a testament to the hard work they and their teachers put in over the last two years."
