Over January 11-12 the society hosted its first orchid show for 2020 at the Laurieton United Services Club.
The society's president Don Kuchel said it was magnificent to see the amount of people who chose to attend the event, with many buying plants for sale.
Yvonne McGregor attended the event on January 12 and said growing orchids was becoming a passion for her.
She is planning on building a greenhouse to host an increasing number of plants.
Yvonne took the opportunity to seek orchid advice from the society's members at the event.
The society gained two new members over the weekend. Don said the society has about 35 active members, with over 50 registered.
The hobby of growing orchids, Don said, is an easy one and he encourages people to come along to the society's meetings to discover how they can start.
