Author Kaneana May says children's imaginations are being threatened by a world where technology dominates.
The author was inspired to create a workshop for children during the school holidays, where they could embrace their creativity and let their ideas run wild.
Port Macquarie Library will host the Writing Superpowers Workshop on Wednesday, January 15 from 2pm. Children aged between eight and 12-years-old are invited to attend.
Ms May launched her first novel titled 'The One' in 2019.
She spoke at the library in August to share her experience with writing, while balancing her busy family life.
Ms May has three children and lives at Old Bar.
Prior to having children she worked on the story writing and script teams for popular television shows including Home and Away, All Saints and Headland.
When she moved to Old Bar with her husband and three children, Ms May started to write her own book and scheduled writing time into their busy timetable.
She said she would write whenever free time allowed, during nap time or when the children watched a movie.
Now the children are older, Ms May has two days a week by herself to focus on her writing.
She is in the process of writing her third book, while her second is being reviewed by her publisher.
Ms May's husband is a special needs teacher and the couple try and encourage their children to switch off technology and switch on their own imaginations, through play and games.
During the workshop on January 15 the characteristics of what makes a great superhero will be explored.
Children will be invited to build their own heroes, while examining different superpowers, super transport, super lairs and super costumes.
Participants will work towards writing a story about their own superhero.
