The club had never been involved in the tournament before, but they looked like seasoned professionals in a comfortable 3-0 win over TAS FC.

Holland twice put his name on the scoresheet in the opening 45 minutes before Adelt iced the cake when he finished off an impressive counter-attacking move in the second half.

The Redbacks also created another four or five chances in the first half where they could have put the result well beyond doubt before halftime.

Captain-coach Riley Papas was impressed with his side's first performance of the season.

"It's the first time our club has been in the FFA Cup as well so we didn't really know what to expect," he said.

"There were positive signs, but we'll take it game by game and see how deep we can go in the tournament."

By fielding a similar squad to the one they had last season, the Redbacks maintained a sense of continuity and Papas felt it was a strong factor in the win.

"We had a few cobwebs, but I was impressed with our performance; it rolled off the back of what we did last year," he said.

The challenge for the Redbacks is to back it up with another one against Moree FC this weekend.

Papas doesn't know how far they will progress, but was hopeful they could get on a bit of a roll.

"You'd love to go on a run where you can see yourself in round six or round seven, but you've got to be realistic and know it's a tough ask to get there," he said.

"The challenge now for us is that we don't know half the teams we play, so it's the magic of the cup as they say."

The performance of a midfield trio making their top grade debuts was another shining light for the club.

"Connor Hallum, Phil Baker and Sachin Heath all started on the bench, but came on and provided some energy when we needed a bit of a lift," Papas said.

"We're very excited for what the season has in store.

"The cup run will be excellent experience for us and our Zone Premier League goal is to make finals and see what happens.

"We want to go as deep as we can."
