All students were successful in their grading attempt. Gradings took place in several groups to ensure social distancing requirements were met.
Students train under the instruction of 6th Dan Shihan Peter Becroft.
Shihan Peter has more than 40 years' experience in Martial Arts. Mid North Coast Karate is part of the Goshin Ryu Karate Association- one of the oldest running clubs in Australia.
"I am proud of each and every one of our students who attempted their grading," Shihan Peter said.
"They all trained extremely hard and gave their all. This determination meant that every student was successful in reaching their next colour belt."
Shihan Peter said it's fantastic to see so many students successfully grade so soon after the Covid-19 lockdown.
"Students were able to maintain their training during the lockdown via free online Zoom classes," he said.
"I also posted daily videos of techniques to practice.
"The dedication of the students towards training has paid off.
"They adapted quickly to the online training environment as well as outdoor training when we could train in groups of up to 10."
The students were tested on their basics and Kata (forms or patterns).
"Some modifications needed to be made to the grading for our senior graded students who were required to spar for their grading," Shihan Peter said.
"As students needed to remain at least 1.5m apart, the sparring component was replaced by a fitness and bag work session.
"In some ways, this component was more demanding and harder than a normal grading but showing their true martial art spirit they adapted and never gave up."
Student Bayley Hannington was also the recipient of the Most Spirited Grader Award.
"Bayley showed great focus, ability and spirit during the grading," Shihan Peter said.
"This award was well deserved.
"Another standout performance was by 76 year old Phillip Ellis.
"Phillip has recently started his Martial Arts journey. It is a privilege to watch him learn and grow."
Mid North Coast Karate is a family orientated club which has classes available for ages three-years-old and above and for all abilities at the training centre.
