The 10 donation bins were organised by the Port Macquarie-Hastings Homelessness Committee.

The bins are placed at the following key locations: IGA Sovereign Hill, Wauchope and Port Macquari; Lake Cathie Community Hub and Garden Centre; Bonny Hills Garage; Port Macquarie Neighbourhood Centre, and Pearl Bay Framing & Trophies.

Lisa Willows from Lifeline Mid Coast NSW said there is always a need for toiletries for homeless people, and the public can help.

"The donation bin donations will be stored at New Horizons and distributed to homeless people in the Hastings," Ms Willows said.

"We're hoping the public can spare one or two items. Just little things such as an extra body wash and other things that people may not think of."

Tracey McColgan from The Buttery said the campaign hopes to raise awareness.

"We also want to raise awareness to the wider community that there are people sleeping rough," Ms McColgan said.

"People may be sleeping on a couch, in a car, or at a friend's house at night."

Residents can donate products such as combs, nail clippers, razors, shaving cream and essentials. Residents can also donate to the Surf@Home Campaign at www.gofundme.com.

The Surf@Home Campaign has so far raised more than $3000 for those at risk or who are experiencing homelessness in the Port Macquarie-Hastings region.
