A sea breeze gusting to 16 knots kept the two monohulls and three cats on their toes.
Commodore Bob Locke was back in form and lead Rick Smith and Dave Morgan home in the cats.
Ian Oxenford on the club Laser was first home for monos followed by Ziggy and crew on their newly acquired Cherub, Equalizer.
Despite a stiff breeze the boys were not daunted after several capsizes but still were flying their spinnaker.
Lindsay on the club rubber ducky was so enthusiastic he collected the final buoy before the monos had time to round it, but I am sure he will wait for us next week.
See you on the lake every Saturday.
Round one puts the best to test
Six intrepid sailors faced the starter on Saturday (October 3) at the inaugural race for Queens Lake Sailing Club for the 2020/21 sailing season.
This was also the first heat of the Kew Corner Store Point Score.
Last week's attempt ended in postponement due to the 40 knot winds. This week we had an ideal north easterly gusting to 20 knots which suited the fleet perfectly.
First across the line and on corrected times was Runamuck, the impulse ably skippered by Warren Sykes. Welcome back to the club Warren.
Second across the line and on corrected times was another Impulse, Puddy, sailed by Dave Makin. Richard sailing the laser, Frantic, was third across the line and fourth on corrected time. Into The Woods sailed by Warren Ruprecht visiting from Harrington was third on corrected times.
The lone catamaran sailed by Rick brought up the rear of the fleet after a bit of confusion on the course.
Ziggy also started the race on the sailboard but became lost somewhere in the Stardust. Regular cat sailor Julian went for a fun run but was quickly dismasted and rescued by Dave and family in the yellow ketch.
Good to see our regular starting boat crew of Rex and Lindsay back with us and please accept our deep gratitude. Without your regular input there would be no sailing.
We are now sailing every Saturday through to April 2021, we have club boats available for those who would like to try sailing so please come down any Saturday morning, you are most welcome.
