Camden Haven Show organisers are considering using virtual changes next year, says society secretary Jody Nelson-Gleeson

The show was postponed this year due to Coronavirus restrictions but organisers are considering introducing virtual changes next year, said Camden Haven Show Society secretary and Agricultural Societies Council director, Jody Nelson-Gleeson.

The agricultural show usually hosts festivities including chainsaw racing, wood chopping, pavilions, horse events such as show jumping and a reptile show on October 17 and 18.

Mrs Nelson-Gleeson said local communities and agricultural shows are putting in place contingencies for next year.

"We will run again in October provided that compiles with COVID," she said.

"As of March this year I don't believe many agricultural shows have run in their traditional format. Some shows are doing virtual show events and we are considering doing that for next year.

"It would be similar to traditional things that would be at a show but adding new innovative ideas as well. That is yet to be fully decided but is what the board are looking at next year.

"To put on a show really takes 13 months and is organised by volunteers. It takes months and months of planning.

"Volunteers are the life blood of agricultural shows and I think that will be the greatest challenge, to keep volunteers from this year into the next."
