Dr Stein Helgeby was previous deputy secretary in the finance department and has extensive experience in public policy, fiscal policy, economic analysis and the federal budget.
The PBO role was set up in 2012 to independently cost policy proposals by members and senators, report on the fiscal impact of election promises by major parties and conduct research into the budget and fiscal policy.
