The plans were given the green light at the December council meeting after extensive consultation with residents in those areas was conducted by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council staff.
The community plans are designed to identify each community's vision, priorities and actions to achieve positive change, whilst recognising the unique qualities of each community and the challenges posed by significant forecast growth.
The plans will enable council to better assess priorities across the entire local government area and work with individual communities to deliver their identified priorities.
Each community worked together to identify a vision, key themes and then actions to deliver the vision for their place.
The Camden Haven community plan focuses on the charm and beauty of the Camden Haven in an environmentally sustainable manner, while growing a vibrant, equitable, connected community and a growing economy.
Their key goals are maintaining a separate village character while promoting the installation and use of an interconnected shared pathway access; supporting the Camden Haven Chamber of Commerce to develop a more diverse and vibrant local economy and to invigorate main commercial areas; improving sustainable visitor experiences through social, natural and cultural/heritage events and activities; improving physical and emotional wellbeing and encourage healthy lifestyle choices; preserving the natural environment and heritage, for future generations; and supporting the ongoing health of the Camden Haven waterways for primary industry, tourism and recreational activities.
The Camden Haven community will also advocate for well-planned, environmentally-sensitive development; support existing and emerging opportunities to engage the community in protecting our biodiversity; and encourage sustainability for not only the natural physical environment, but also for our economy, society and culture.
Hastings hinterland community plan aims to promote future growth and tourism opportunities that acknowledge the region's unique indigenous, early settler and logging histories, while protecting pristine natural resources, waterways and wildlife; against a rural backdrop that preserves a quiet and peaceful way of life.
The plan will strive to maintain village and hinterland character; encourage family and community connections; promote and support tourism opportunities; protect and preserve the natural environment that maintains water security; and offer a safe and protected community.
The Beechwood and Pembrooke community would like to remain a peaceful and picturesque region where the natural environment is respected and nurtured by the community.
The plan aims for a place where local business thrives, where the historic character of the region is valued and celebrated, and where vibrant local events and activities are enjoyed by residents and visitors.
Their key goals are to establish activated places and spaces; to nurture a safe community; remain a connected community; maintain village character and heritage aspects; and promote sustainable development and future growth.
