A spokeswoman for US President-elect Joe Biden says the incoming administration "does not intend to lift" international travel restrictions on January 26 as announced by outgoing US president Donald Trump minutes earlier.

"On the advice of our medical team, the Administration does not intend to lift these restrictions on 1/26," Biden spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in a tweet.
"In fact, we plan to strengthen public health measures around international travel in order to further mitigate the spread of COVID-19,"
Trump, who is due to leave office in less than 48 hours, announced minutes earlier that restrictions imposed on people travelling from Europe and Brazil will be lifted from January 26, provided people have a recent negative COVID-19 test result.
