Readers will recognise the setting of his second novel, which is based in Port Macquarie and the region, although the names have been changed.
Three Sisters, published by Shawline Publishing Group, is a sequel to Mr Tooby's first novel Helium and Honey but it can be read independently.
The work of crime fiction explores the causes and consequences of human difference.
The writing process took about two years.
Mr Tooby said positive feedback received from the self-published Helium and Honey encouraged him to continue writing.
"The goal I set myself with Three Sisters was to improve and to find a publisher," he said.
"I have achieved that and I think the book is an improvement."
The landscape architect, author and Lake Cathie resident writes in the evenings and on weekends when time allows.
Three Sisters will be launched at Port Macquarie Library on April 20 at 4pm.
"I am looking forward to seeing what the community thinks," he said.
Three Sisters is available in all major bookstores.
