One project to benefit from a $280,000 investment is the Lake Cathie Foreshore upgrade.
Works should take about eight weeks (weather permitting), and will include: improved pathway; new barbecue areas; picnic shelters and seating; outdoor showers; a new shade sail over the playground; new signage; bike racks.
Other projects to receive funding include:
- Laurieton Sports Complex - installation of a new all-weather netball and basketball court.
- Beach to Beach Pathway - this project completes the missing link of footpath.
Aged Care Royal Commission
The final report from the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety contains 148 recommendations, delivering a challenging, but achievable road to reform.
A $452 million immediate response has been made as the government commits to historic improvements.
We all need to do more to ensure senior Australians are treated with respect, care and dignity and have access to quality care.
The Royal Commission's final report recognises the immense effort of our nurses and carers but also brings the challenges of aged care services into clear focus.
The immediate funding boost will provide additional financial assistance for residential care providers so they can improve care, whilst building the much-needed workforce of the future to support Australians who want to age in their own homes.
News media and digital platforms
Last week Parliament passed world-leading legislation to protect local news media against large digital platforms like Google and Facebook.
The Code was developed after extensive analysis from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), including almost three years of public consultation.
The Code will ensure that news media businesses are paid for the content they generate, helping to sustain public interest journalism in Australia.
