Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Deputy Premier John Barilaro joined local MPs to tour the flood-devastated region on Friday. (March 26).

Mr Morrison said it was quite humbling to talk and listen to people who had been through an incredible last seven days - saving lives, putting themselves at risk and holding hands of children and others who were scared.

"I think it is just an enormously humbling and proud moment to see the wonderful resilience, the character of Australians in times like this and we have seen it so many times over the last two and a half years, in particular," he said.

The clean-up now begins.

Mr Morrison outlined funding support with the NSW and the Commonwealth governments to equally share the cost of the recovery.

There are small business grants for those directly impacted of up to $50,000 and primary producer grants up to $75,000.

Mr Morrison said it was not just cash but a message of hope for each of those producers and small businesses.

The NSW Premier said she was struck by the way everybody came together to support one another.

"We just say to everybody, please know the federal and state governments are working together to get you what you need in the next few days, weeks and months ahead," Ms Berejiklian said.

She extended her deepest gratitude to all the emergency service workers and volunteers, and thanked the community for restoring faith in good citizenship.

"I met volunteers today in Port Macquarie who had lost their own homes but were there helping other people," Ms Berejiklian said.

"That is the kind of spirit that brings us together and makes us feel proud of who we are and I just urge everybody to please get help when you need it."

Deputy Premier John Barilaro said assistance would be quickly rolled out.

He thanked emergency service personnel and also citizens for keeping their neighbours safe.

A multi-agency strike force has hit the ground as part of the clean-up.

Federal minister David Littleproud said help was here but more help was on the way.

That includes Australian Defence Force personnel.

Mr Littleproud said they wanted to make sure they took away the emotional strain in the clean-up with the practical measure of having boots on the ground.

He also spoke about financial assistance measures.

Lyne MP Dr David Gillespie thanked those who assisted with the flood emergency, while Oxley MP Melinda Pavey said she was just so grateful for our community pulling together.
