The last few weeks have been incredibly tough on us all, but if it has proved anything, it is that we are truly blessed to have a community that is always willing to band together through hardship.

We have faced so much together, from bushfires, drought, a pandemic, and now the floods.
Through all of this, time and time again, those in need put others before themselves and offered support when they too needed assistance.
These inspiring acts are a true testament to our community's character. We are strong, resilient, considerate, and always willing to work together. This is what makes a real community, and our authenticity should be celebrated.
This weekend, our Bicentenary event program sets out to do this. There are so many exciting opportunities to explore our place and appreciate the community over the next week.
From Saturday, nine days of events and activities have been planned to recognise our history and the people who make our community all that it is.
I'm looking forwards to the amazing new light and sound production called Wakulda at the historic Port Macquarie Courthouse. Wakulda means 'as one' in the Gathang language of the Birpai people, and it tells the important stories that make up our rich history.
From our traditional owners of the land, the Birpai people, right through to the thriving regional city we are today. The production shows how we all work together as one, to create our vibrant community.
There's plenty to delight in from the enlightening cultural exhibitions, the exciting community-led events, and the many other activities throughout the week.
Take this opportunity to discover new and unexpected pockets of our culture, heritage, nature, and our tastes, and to reflect on the parts that you have grown to love.
I hope that our Bicentenary gives you the opportunity to come together with your community, and deepen your understanding of what makes the Port Macquarie-Hastings region and community as special as it is.
