Students Sempai Jay Iveli and Sempai Patrick Fisher successfully achieved their Shodan Black Belt (1st Dan), Sempai Anissa Hilton successfully achieved her Nidan-Ho Black Belt and Sensei Shaun Budai successfully achieved his Sandan Black Belt (3rd Dan).
Sensei Shaun has become the first student at Mid North Coast Karate to reach a 3rd Dan Black Belt level. Sensei Shaun has been training for 15 years to reach this significant milestone.
The students train under the instruction of 6th Dan Shihan Peter Becroft. Shihan Peter has over 40 years experience in martial arts and has been teaching karate in the Camden Haven for over 25 years.
"I am so proud of Sensei Shaun and Sempai's Jay, Patrick and Anissa," said Shihan Peter.
"This is a fantastic achievement for each of them and is the result of years of hard work, commitment and dedication.
"The students were well supported at the grading with a large contingent of fellow students and family members also travelling to Sydney to support the graders".
The students overcame the Black Belt Grading test of knowledge, endurance, spirit and character. They demonstrated their knowledge of basics, applications of basics, Kata (forms), teaching, sparring and self defence over two days.
Sensei Shaun was also co-winner of the prestigious Ross James Award for being the most spirited grader at the grading.
The celebration of their achievements continued when they arrived home with a presentation evening being held. The graders were able to showcase their grading Kata's and grading demonstration to the rest of the club.
Mid North Coast Karate is part of the Goshin-Ryu Karate Association. Goshin-Ryu is one of Australia's oldest and largest Karate Clubs which is run by 9th Dan Kancho, Dr Richard Bradford.
"Martial arts is a very personal journey. It encourages you to push yourself beyond what you believe are your limits and achieve more than what you once thought was possible," said Shihan Peter.
"Martial arts is about being better than you were the day before. It's about you giving your best everyday and being the best version of yourself.
"Through this continuous improvement, growth follows. This is evident with the development and achievements shown by Sensei Shaun and Sempai's Jay, Patrick and Anissa."
