Construction is continuing at the produce, decorative, sensory and bush food public garden as volunteers rush to make ready a Spring Fair.
"Since the launch we have installed timber garden, composting bays and erected a shade structure centre-piece for the garden to allow flowers to hang from the canopy," Brendan Woollam from the Hastings Neighbourhood Centre said.
"We are not breaking any records but we have 20 volunteers gathering on a Tuesday and put in a solid effort.
"We are anticipating to hold a Spring Fair in September or October with a grand opening. There will be a range of fruit, vegetables, bush tucker plants, aromatic, sensory and ornamental plants."
Planter beds and irrigation has already been completed on the fenced block adjacent to Lake Cathie community hall, since works began on November 13 last year.
Lake Cathie resident of seven years, Jan Cook, has been volunteering at the garden throughout the last year.
"I volunteer at the garden in drilling, cutting, measuring, digging and weeding. It's a bit of everything and the boys are teaching me to use the power tools," she said.
"I like the spirit that we are all here for a purpose and there's no grandstanding.
"We are looking for a gardening guru guest speaker. It would be sensational to have a guest such as Costa Georgiadis or Johanna Griggs for the grand opening.
"I think we want to show the community the fruits of our labour, encourage people to see what is being achieved and join to help the outcome."
New gardeners are welcome to join volunteers from the Lake Cathie Gardening Club, who meet each Tuesday from 9:30am to 11am at the community garden.
Mr Woollam thanked Healthy North Coast, Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, Port Patios who have donated a shade structure, Gudgeon Excavations, Bunnings Port Macquarie and carpenter Jono Hainsworth for access to a concrete mixer, tools and machinery.
