The Nannas gathered out the front of Dr Gillespie's office, encouraging passing people to support their opposition of government spending on "climate-destroying" gas and gas power stations.
"For every single letter we delivered to Dr Gillespie, there were 10 people who agreed with us, but did not have the time to write a letter" said Nanna Linda Gill.
"The federal government has given billions of public dollars in subsidies to the coal and gas industry this year alone, and now they want to fund the gas industry to destroy communities and environments for gas development across Australia. Experts know this will not reduce gas prices as promised by these politicians," Nanna Helen Kvelde.
"The Nannas want public money to be spent on health, education, roads, climate action, aged care, childcare, aged pensions, public housing, reforestation, homelessness, refugees, women's refuges and so many more options that benefit us, rather than propping up a defunct, climate destroying fossil fuel industry."
The MidCoast Knitting Nannas believe politicians who continue to ignore the climate crisis, while funding carbon emitting industries, are "climate criminals".
