Competition leaders are starting to emerge after matches over the May 15 weekend.
"When we look at the five or six top sides it's really close at the moment. It's a pretty strong competition and is looking really good considering we were all worried about COVID this season," Mr Connor said.
"Lower Macleay just got over Laurieton Stingrays in the last few minutes at Smithtown Oval, that was a see-sawing match on the weekend. Laurieton didn't have a full bench over the weekend but they have plenty of players on their books.
"Beechwood beat premiers South West Rocks, 42 to 2. It was 8-2 at halftime, which is pretty close but I think the Marlins lacked a little fitness and got run over in the end.
"Beechwood are a good, young side and they don't make too many errors. They are super fit and are getting results at the moment.
"Comboyne Tigers had a win against Harrington (40-18), which was a good score for them after a loss last week and bounces them back into the winner's circle.
"Harrington are a reformed side and they are lacking a bit of deep. In saying that, they are really competitive for the first half and that's encouraging for next year."
The recent forfeit by Lake Cathie Raiders against Kendall Blues at Kendall Showground on May 15 was not unexpected, according to Mr Connor.
"The forfeit from Lake Cathie against Kendall was a disappointing. They have had a few injuries and have struggled a bit. Hopefully they will bounce back this week," he said.
"Often when clubs reform there are a few older players who come back to lend a hand, despite not playing for a few years. This can lead to a few injuries and an under match fitness team."
