The self-confessed amateur dancer will be facing off against nine Hastings business owners and local personalities to raise funds for Cancer Council at the Glasshouse on Saturday, June 5.
The stars, who are being supported by talented local dance teachers alongside Mr McDonald are Cassie Clark of Seasalt Café & Restaurant; Cori Aspinall of Port Macquarie Orthodondics; Dr Kristy Kostalas of Port Medical Aesthetics Clinic and Bangalow & Co; Mark Matheson of Modern Edge Physio; Meaghan Cook of Hastings Secondary College; Natasha Swain, a Hairdresser/TAFE Teacher; Tim Farnsworth from Westpac and Michael Ferguson of Wauchope Veterinary Clinic.
Mr McDonald, who has already raised more than $8,600 and is flying the flag for the Camden Haven, said everyone he knows has been touched in some way by cancer or has a family member with cancer.
"We lost my father-in-law, Wayne, in March this year due to pancreatic cancer," he said.
"Originally we were raising money to help him and he would have been there for the dance, but it's just raising money for a good cause now.
"I agreed to this because of Wayne. He was stoked and the family was all really supportive of me doing it.
"It's a good thing to do and hopefully raise some money as well. I'm not a dancer and I'm well out of my comfort zone for this.
"I've played guitar before and I'm hoping that musical rhythm could help if I can get it out of my head and onto the dance floor."
Mr McDonald also lost an 60-year-old uncle, well known solicitor and Port Macquarie Surf Life Saving Club life member Norm Morgan, to melanoma in 2012.
"That was always the closest person to me who had succumbed to cancer. I'd never had anyone that close to me pass from cancer until Norm did," he said.
Mr McDonald is practicing hip hop dance under the guidance of Port Macquarie Performing Arts dance teacher Kye Maurer, formerly a student at Camden Haven High School.
