This year's Beach to Brother trail running festival will count for even more after the announcement from Cancer Council NSW that competitors can fundraise.

The idea to fundraise was initiated by first time competitors, Peta Alexopoulos and Belinda Johnson.
Always community minded, the two great friends set out to make a difference.
"We are passionate locals who want to see the community rebuild after such a challenging 18 months," they said.
"Local events like Beach to Brother are a great opportunity to bring people together, whilst fundraising for such a great cause".
Event founder and director Mick Maher jumped right on board, having been impacted by cancer in his own circles, providing all participants the opportunity to fundraise as part of the event.
Over the next four months you will see Peta and Belinda's faces around town, wearing yellow.
Throughout their training campaign, they won't just be fundraising, but also promoting sun and skin safety awareness.
"Given our outdoor lifestyles, melanoma is in the top three cancers here in the Hastings and yet there is something we can do about it."
They encourage others to take part in the event on September 26. If a full marathon isn't your thing, there are other options.
You can participate in the team-relay marathon with between two to four friends, or participate in the half-marathon, 10km, or 5km event.
And if running isn't your thing, the event has been designed that participants can complete the half-marathon, the 10km, or the 5km at a walking pace.
There really is no excuse not to participate and fundraise for the Cancer Council.
All distances finish atop North Brother Mountain, Dooragan National Park, Laurieton, where finishers and spectators get to relax overlooking the beautiful views.
Cancer Council NSW community relations coordinator Lauren Fraser said they were fortunate to receive support from the community through the event.
"Cancer affects people in so many ways and impacts every community in Australia, with over 138,000 Australians estimated to be diagnosed with cancer this year," she said.
"This generosity will enable us to continue our work in cancer research, prevention programs, advocacy and local support services."
