Fishing Clubs and locals from across the region will unite for the Lake Cathie Charity Fish Auction on June 20.

The event was cancelled last year due to Covid restrictions, but secretary of the Lake Cathie Fishing Club, Terry McDermott, said he is confident the event will be bigger and better this year.

"The event has been running for over 35 years and we have our fingers crossed everything will go to plan this year," he said.

"At the 2019 auction we raised $17,000 and we're hoping this year we will be able to beat that number."

The event will begin on June 18 and will wrap-up on June 20 with the charity auction.

"The fishing will get underway on June 18 and the fish will then be weighed before being donated for the auction which will be on Sunday, June 20, at 1pm at Club Lake Cathie," Terry said.

All proceeds from the day will be donated to the Lake Cathie Rural Fire Service and Camden Haven Marine Rescue.

"We encourage everyone to come along and support these two organisations that do so much for our community, especially after the bushfires and flood," Terry said.

"They look after us and we're more than happy to support them."

Terry said if the weather is good, the club will be expecting over 200 fishermen to take part.

"A lot of people come from all over for the event and if the fishing and weather is good, we can expect quite a lot of people to turn up," he said.

There will also be a sausage sizzle, raffles and other auction items on offer.

"The club would like to thank all of the community members and organisations that help us out through the year and all of the sponsors who have come on board for this year's charity auction," Terry said.

"We hope people will come along and participate,"
