Students representing Mid North Coast Karate located at Kew recently travelled to Sydney to compete in the Goshin Ryu Karate Australian National Championships.

Goshin Ryu Karate is one of the longest running Karate Clubs in Australia. Students are trained by 6th Dan Shihan Peter Becroft who been teaching in the Camden Haven for over 25 years and has over 40 years experience in Martial Arts.
Students competed in both Kata and Sparring events at the National Tournament. With the event cancelled in 2020 due to Covid restrictions, students were very keen to get back on the mat to compete.
This was the first tournament many of the students have competed at.
"I am extremely proud of each and every one of my students achievements. They have all trained hard and their dedication has paid off with the tremendous results they all achieved," Shihan Peter said.
Addison Williams placed 3rd in the under 7s Kata and 1st in the under 7s Male and Female combined sparring.
Rhys Barry placed 1st in the 8yrs sparring. Flynn Collins placed 3rd in the 8/9yrs Kata and 1st in the 9yrs sparring.
Zac Blanch placed 3rd in the 10 years sparring. Reuben Hastie placed 2nd in the 12yrs Sparring. Eric Millgate placed 3rd in the Junior Team Kata.
Sam Hilton placed 3rd in the 12/13yrs Kata and 3rd in the Junior Team Kata.
Sempai Jay Iveli placed 2nd in the 12/13yrs Kata, 1st in the 12yrs sparring and 3rd in Junior Team Kata.
Liam Urbanica placed 3rd in the 14/15yrs Kata and 3rd in the 14yrs Sparring. Adam Williams placed 2nd in the Men's purple to brown Kata.
Hima Bindu placed 2nd in the Ladies Orange to Brown Kata, 3rd in the Ladies Veteran Kata, 2nd in the Ladies Orange to Brown Sparring and 3rd in the Women's Veteran Sparring.
Sempai Sean Butcher placed 3rd in the Senior Demonstration event.
Sempai Jade Hilton placed 3rd in the Ladies Open Kata, 2nd in the 16/17yr Kata, 1st in the Senior Team Kata and 1st in the 17yrs sparring. Sempai Patrick Fisher placed 1st in the 17yrs Sparring, 1st in the Senior Team Kata and 1st in the 16/17yrs Kata.
Sempai Anissa Hilton placed 2nd in the Ladies Veteran Kata, 2nd in the Ladies Veteran Sparring and 3rd in the Women's Open Sparring.
Sensei Shaun Butcher placed 1st in the Men's Open Kata, 1st in the Senior Team Kata and 2nd place in the Men's Open Sparring.
"Tournaments are not just about winning. They are about performing at the best possible level you can and being the best you can be," said Shihan Peter.
"Karate isn't just about self-defence. Karate also teaches focus, co-ordination, self-confidence, self-esteem, goal setting and self-belief. Karate is a personal journey about growing stronger every day and achieving things that you once thought you couldn't. This is an important lesson to take into everyday life. Most importantly Karate is a lot of fun."
Mid North Coast Karate operates from its fully equipped training Centre at Kew.
Classes are available for all levels and abilities from ages 3 to mature adults.
