The Blues led throughout the match against the Tigers at the Kendall Showground on Saturday, June 19. The Kendall Blues women's team also had a victory against Long Flat, 10-4, earlier that day.

The event is held annually in honour of former player and local legend, Andrew Howe. This year's benefiting charities were The Mark Hughes Foundation beanies for brain cancer and Beards of Hope, supporting pregnancy and infant loss.

Kendall Blues spokesman Peter Hollins said crowds were down this year due to the inclement weather.

"The crowds were a little bit down because of the nasty weather. Some of the wind gusts were 60kmph and there were a few kicks which went up in the air and flew backwards," he said.

"It's held in honour of Andrew. He played for the Blues, played cricket for Kendall, was a golf pro at Kew and a local darts champion. But he was popular because he was such a good person.

"We had a nice minute of silence before the match with both teams taking the field, forming a guard with the playing of The Gambler by Kenny Rogers, which was Andrew's favourite song.

"His dad Alan presented the trophy at the end of the game."

The match was followed by presentations, live music and a team jersey auction to raise money for the two selected charities.

"The fundraising back at the club went quite well and we even had a jersey which went over $1000. There was a jersey from the first State of Origin game, which was donated by reserve referee Grant Adkins," Mr Hollins said.

"We had a few ex-NRL players who came up such as Brett Kenny and Graeme Atkins, who both played in the 1981 grand final. They did a bit of an interview after the game and Graeme donated a reunion photo.

"The day might not have happened without the Kendall Blues womens players who organised the ordering, marketing and ran the auction."
