Hastings League president Geoff Connor said South West Rocks Marlins were too strong, while Laurieton was plagued by injuries.

At Beechwood, the match with Lower Macleay was marred by an incident that will now see two non-playing officials face disciplinary action.

Beechwood led the Lower Macleay Magpies 16-6 before the game was called off with more than 20 minutes still on the clock.

"It was a cracker of a game, but unfortunately Lower Macleay had non-playing officials on the bench who were doing the wrong thing," he said.

"It was nothing to do with the players, the game was still in the balance, but we now have two people who will appear in front of the board on Thursday (July 29).

"There is a range of charges, not obeying a directive of an official, bringing the game into disrepute, foul language and intimidation. It's quite serious and they will be dealt with accordingly."

A minute's silence was held before the start of the match in memory of Anne Wonderley.

Back at Laurieton Oval, Kendall put in some hard yards to defeat Harrington, 62-12.

"Harrington are starting off as a new side in the comp and that was expected. Harrington are hanging in there but really looking forward to next year," Mr Connor said.

Long Flat defeated Comboyne 46-26 in a hard fought match on the traditionally difficult Long Flat home soil.

Mr Connor said the wet weather postponed match between Laurieton and Kendall from July 10 has been reorganised onto August 17, and semi-finals have been pushed back a week.

This weekend, Lake Cathie will play a challenging Long Flat side at Lake Cathie Sporting Complex from 2.30pm on July 31.

Lower Macleay will face Kendall at Kendall Showground, while Harrington will look to improve their lower-end placing against Laurieton at Esmond Hogan Oval.

Comboyne will face the top-of-the-ladder Beechwood on the tigers home turf, while South West Rocks Marlins have the bye.
