The cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) workshop was hosted by new WBHSLSC member and paramedic student Flynn Charge at Rainbow Beach on Sunday, October 17.
Restart a Heart Day is a global campaign led by the European Resuscitation Council, co-ordinated in Australia and New Zealand by the Council of Ambulance Authorities to educate the community about CPR and automated external defibrillators (AED) in the community.
"The day is an international initiative aimed at educating people on performing CPR and improve the statistics of an out of hospital cardiac arrest," Mr Charge said.
"In terms of this area we have very good facilities with defibrillators and a lot of people have done some CPR training.
"However many people have not done a training course for many many years and are now out of date with modern methods, we are also about 30 mins away from an ambulance if we need one."
About 25 members of the public and 25 surf club members attended the day, Mr Charge said.
"Studies have shown good high quality CPR and early defibrillation can drastically improve survival rates of an out of hospital cardiac arrest," he said.
"It's also something that everyone can do and even children up to a certain age can do it. Not only is it super easy to learn but also people unable to do CPR can activate AED and call 000.
"Restart A Heart Day is once a year but the surf club is always open to volunteers and new members to learn about this kind of medical training. We might do another day early next year."
Mr Charge will also be managing a first aid tent with local paramedics at the upcoming Rainbow Gold Enduro event later this year.
